Danish Legend

There is a Danish legend that reads when someone is close to death and dying that a window should be left open for their soul to leave.

It just so happened that this town on the east side of Sweden at the tip of Karlskrona right on the Baltic Sea experienced a bizarre weather phenomenon one year. The wind had the rain whipping around in every direction, some even claimed it was raining so hard, it bounced off the ground only to fall again somewhere else. The temperature was dropping to an unbelievable cold and the rain was freezing and soon everything was covered with an opaque, icy blanket.

Also on that very day, the old lady who lived in the house by the sea was hanging onto what was left of her fragile life. She listened as her family gave her permission to...die. She heard the sounds, “We’ll be ok without you meema”, “We’ll take care of everything” and her favorite was “you won’t be in pain anymore”. As she closed her eyes one last time she could feel her soul exit her body. She hovered over her family and floated toward the window. As she turned to hover one last time a strong gust of freezing rain and wind dropped her to the ground and in an instant her soul was frozen. Her ascent was halted. The heavy ice forced her to the ground, she stood like a pillar of salt and all she could do was stare into the room as her family wept.
